A Brisbane-based blogger has come under fire for a controversial Instagram post in which she wrote: “cancer is your body trying to save you”. Olivia Budgen had set out to challenge perceptions surrounding diseases by suggesting they might not be “bad at all”. Her comments quickly backfired as commenters accused the “raw food educator” of spreading “ill-informed nonsense”. The young health coach explained that many people wrongly believe disease is an indication that your immune system is failing. screen-shot-2017-11-23-at-17.18.12.png (Instagram/oliviabudgen) “Being open-minded and changing your perspective around what disease actually is and why it’s happening, will allow you to take back control of your health and realise that your body is ALWAYS working for you, and never against you,” she wrote. “The immune system is always there to keep the body free of contaminates. "Unfortunately in many cases this isn't possible because organs such as the liver, large intestine, lungs, kidneys and skin become overtaxed with toxins and don’t eliminate efficiently.” She added that “cancer is a survival mechanism” defending the body from toxicity. “Disease is a natural defence mechanism to prevent a much more serious situation from occurring.” View image on Twitter View image on Twitter Saman Shad ✔ @muminprogress It seems there's always another Belle Gibson wannabe waiting on Instagram 5:12 PM - Nov 22, 2017 49 49 Replies 44 44 Retweets 71 71 likes Twitter Ads info and privacy Some Twitter users have been comparing Budgen to Belle Gibson, the Australian blogger who falsely claimed that diet changes cured her of multiple cancers. Gibson was recently fined more than A$410,000 (£240,000) after she released a bestselling app and cookbook off the back of her claims. Budgen's post has since been removed from Instagram and cancer specialists have been quick to refute her claims. “The recommendations in Ms Budgen’s social media post bear no relation to any scientific facts about how cancer starts or how it can be treated,” Martin Ledwick, Cancer Research UK’s head information nurse, told The Metro. “Her stance is extremely insensitive to people who have cancer and to those who have lost someone to cancer, as it implies that a few changes to diet will save them.” The Independent has contacted Budgen for comment. Because one man’s anti-aircraft platform is another man’s castle.

By Mike McDowall FACEBOOKTWITTER 106K SHARESEMAIL ARTICLECopy link WHY YOU SHOULD CARE Because one man’s anti-aircraft platform is another man’s castle. Everyone dreams of staking a claim to a deserted island, but few pull it off. Former British Army Maj. Paddy Roy Bates was a bit more proactive; he created his own country back in 1967, and the tiny state is still going strong. The Principality of Sealand, located on a World War II fortress six miles off the coast of Suffolk, England, was established by Bates as a potential base for a pirate radio station. He declared himself head of state and introduced a constitution and a national anthem. Today it boasts its own currency, postage stamps and official passport. Sealand started life as Fort Roughs in 1942, one of several concrete and steel islands constructed by the British to fend off German invaders. It was home to 150 servicemen and anti-aircraft guns until it was abandoned in 1956. British territorial waters extended only three miles from the coast back then, so the fort became terra nullius, or “land belonging to no one.” No one, that is, until Bates showed up on Sept. 2, 1967, declared it an independent principality and dubbed himself “Prince Roy” and his wife “Princess Joan.” The British government acted swiftly, destroying other forts outside British waters, but didn’t challenge the new prince’s claims. FOLKS CAN VISIT SEALAND, BUT IT’S SUGGESTED THAT YOU SEND A NOTE FIRST. Peace prevailed — for about a year. In 1968, workmen fixing navigation buoys shouted obscenities at Prince Roy’s 16-year-old daughter, Penny. Her brother Michael, 14, encouraged them to leave by firing warning shots. Firearms charges were filed on the mainland but dismissed by a judge, who declared, “U.K. courts have no jurisdiction.” To Bates, this amounted to de facto recognition of Sealand’s independence. Fast-forward 10 years. Everyone but Michael was away, when Alexander Achenbach — a former business partner of Bates’ — staged a coup d’etat, taking Bates’ son prisoner and holding him without food for four days before transporting him to the Netherlands. Michael and his father soon regained control, rappelling from a helicopter, armed with pistols and a sawed-off shotgun. German-born Sealand citizen Gernot Putz, one of Achenbach’s lackeys, was imprisoned for treason, and Germany sent a diplomat to negotiate his release — the second instance, Bates argued, of de facto recognition. It may seem like tomfoolery, but it’s not without precedent. Other European micro-nations include San Marino, Andorra and Liechtenstein, all of which prosper as tax havens and gambling destinations. The Danish enclave of Christiania has prevailed despite attempts to close it down; the Republic of Saugeais, in eastern France, has its own president; the Italian principality of Seborga was ruled by Prince Giorgio I until his death in 2009. Prince Roy passed away in October 2012, and was succeeded by Michael, who kindly met me at his mainland Essex residence. He’s a formidable figure — tall and broad, with a gaze that pins you to your chair. Like Sealand, he looks like he can weather stormy seas. He’s genial and, like Queen Elizabeth II, owns a Range Rover and is fond of dogs. Michael spins a great yarn over coffee. He reckons he’s spent two full decades on Sealand, often waiting weeks for a break in the weather to get to the mainland for supplies. Was he frightened by Achenbach’s “terrorists” (his word) back in the ’70s? “No,” he says, chuckling. “I was ready to kill the *****.” As many as 150 people lived on the island in its ’70s heyday, but the numbers have since dwindled to just a few. These days Sealand provides secure Web hosting and data storage. Cash also comes in through the sale of collectible coins, stamps and noble titles. Folks can visit, but it’s suggested that you send a note first. A Hollywood movie’s in the works, and Prince Michael has written a definitive history titled The Principality of Sealand. And, perhaps most importantly, in July the family welcomed baby Freddy Michael Roy to the fold — a fourth-generation prince to protect and serve Sealand’s independence. What Warren Buffett And Ann Graybiel Advise On Habits

What Warren Buffett And Ann Graybiel Advise On Habits Warren Buffett frequently explains to groups of university students that the best thing they can do is develop good habits. According to Buffett, while most students are at an age where they can still easily develop good habits, once you get older, it’s virtually impossible to change your behavior. But scientist Ann Graybiel thinks age is not as big a factor as many people think. The approach Buffett suggests to students is quite simple. Look around you and think about whom you like the most. What makes you like or admire these people? Do the same thing for people you don’t like. What are the behavioral traits that cause you to dislike those people? Buffett explains that his mentor, Benjamin Graham, used this approach to modify his own behavior as a young adult. Graham was co-author of the seminal book on value investing, The Intelligent Investor, and he was also Buffett’s professor at Columbia University. At 54 years old I’m at least twice as old as the students Warren Buffett addresses. But I’m a stubborn person. In spite of what my mirror shouts out to me every morning about my physical appearance, I still have the mindset of a 20 year old. So I decided that, going into 2017, I should try out Buffett’s approach. I thought about the people I interact with and listed the traits of those I most like, along with the traits of people I like less. I like kindness and generosity, modesty, sincerity and good humor. I like disciplined and goal-oriented people. I especially like people who have healthy lifestyles. I dislike selfishness, unclear intentions, sarcasm and gossip. I dislike people who blame all their problems on external forces, and those who are perpetually dissatisfied. I especially dislike people who are coercive. But before setting out to change my own habits, I decided to second-guess Warren Buffett by finding out what scientists think of his approach and my list of good and bad habits. So as the year 2016 came to a close I got on the phone with renowned expert on the neurophysiology of habit formation, Ann Graybiel to ask a few questions. MIT professor, director of the Graybiel laboratory at MIT and recipient of the National Medal of Science in 2001, surely Dr. Graybiel would have an opinion on the set of habits I listed. Pat Brans: What do you think of Warren Buffett’s approach to developing habits? Ann Graybiel: Buffett is a marvel and he has good ideas here. Habit by imitation is a wonderful idea. The ancient Greeks wrote a lot about that. Finding mentors is truly important in life. However, I don’t necessarily agree with Warren Buffett on the part about getting too old to develop new habits. Brans: Wow! That’s great news for me, a 54 year old. Tell me more about age and habits. Graybiel: I don’t think it’s ever too late to change habits or to make new ones. I do know that it seems more difficult to acquire new habits as one gets older. But I think that has a lot to do with the time constraints of older people. The older you get, the busier you get—if you are working and taking care of your family—and so the less likely you are to devote an hour a day or so to working on things like being modest. But this all in the end comes down to motivation and weighing different priorities in life. And motivation very much depends on reinforcements—good ones and bad ones. Brans: Are the things I’ve listed as good and bad habits truly habits in the same way breathing or eating—or even learning to ride a bicycle—are habits? In other words, are all these things supported by similar brain functions? Graybiel: It’s hard to come up with an adequate definition of habit—and it’s even harder to make the difference between habits and skills. Let’s say it takes you months to learn a difficult piano piece by Bach. Then you stop playing it for several years. When you come back to it, you’ll re-learn it in a fraction of the original time. Part of what’s happening when habits form is what we call “chunking.” You learn the behavioral pattern and your brain packages up the whole sequence, along with beginning and ending markers, so that you no longer have to think of the details. Cues typically start the sequence—we all know that: Just seeing where the candy is kept makes the habit of eating one that much stronger. That’s very much how both habits and skills work. http://www.forbes.com/sites/patbrans/2017/01/02/what-warren-buffett-and-ann-graybiel-advise-on-habits/2/#7f1bef836174 Pat Brans , CONTRIBUTOR I write about time management and productivity. Opinions expressed by Forbes Contributors are their own. Continued from page 1 Pause Mute Current Time 1:14 / Duration Time 1:38 Loaded: 0%Progress: 0% Share Fullscreen I believe the traits you listed can be learned, but for some people with great difficulty. I’m pretty sure that this is because the same fundamental neural mechanisms that control what we all think of as habits—you know, the fellow puts his right hand in his pocket and jingles his keys every time he’s thinking, or she brushes her teeth before she combs her hair—also control the kinds of traits Warren Buffett talks about. We know now that just as there are descending pathways in the brain, that for many years were called “central pattern generators,” which control things like eating and breathing and walking, there are other pathways that go up from the basal ganglia toward the neocortex—the part of the brain that controls higher level thinking. I believe these pathways going into the neocortex are crucial to doing the very things you’ve listed. We call them “cognitive pattern generators.” These pathways serve to generate the de novo patterns of behavior that can become habits. But we have to watch out. Because unlike some of the motor patterns that get glued into the spinal cord and brain stem, these circuits are rather vulnerable. We have to tend them more than we have to tend the ones in the lower functions of the brain. These 'habit' patterns in the brain have to get renewed reinforcement from time to time. We’ve found in the lab that the habit patterns can be flipped on and off by the neocortex—it is quite amazing. Brans: Now I’m fully on board. What approach would you advise me to take to change in 2017 based on the two lists I’ve made of good and bad habits? Graybiel: I think there are some tricks to keep in mind when you’re trying to learn the wonderful qualities you’ve brought up. You need context, reinforcement, consistency and hard work. I tell people that if you want to jog in the morning, put out the shoes and the gear the night before so you see them first thing in the morning. If you want to eat better, put fruit out on your kitchen table. For the behavior traits you’re talking about, you also have to put yourself in the right context, at least as you are learning the new behavior. Similarly, the attributes you listed, such as being kind or having a good sense of humor, may require some artificial reinforcement. We have to think through the long-term consequences, which is what you might call delayed reinforcement. We can assure ourselves that when we perform the behavior it will in the long run bring about a positive consequence to ourselves and to others. There seems to be a war going on among the circuits. Some of them want us to be one way; some of them want us to be the other way. We have to realize that this isn’t child’s play. This is our flexible brain. Do you want to be kind and modest, or not? You have to make a commitment, and you have to put in place some kind of positive reinforcement. The good news is that once you develop a habitual behavior, your brain then seems to treat it as a whole. As I said, this is when the pattern gets chunked. To get to that point, you have to do the whole thing over and over. This may be arduous at first. But over time, the behavior you are working on will become a habit. I’m a big fan of William James. I haven’t found anything that equals William James’ 1890 essay on habits, in which he advises, “Never suffer an exception to occur till the new habit is securely rooted in your life.” This is a key point. If you work on a habit all week and then decide to take a day off because it’s Saturday, you’ll fall right back into the old habit. So developing habits is effortful. But what a reward to get there, to learn something new! And in the process, you learn about yourself. 4 Steps Formula: How To Make 1 Million Pesos Here’s the 4 steps... Step 1: Modeling - Identify the rich and successful people and do what they do. Ang tawag dito ay “modeling”. Modeling successful people. In other words, humanap ka ng tao na merong resulta at merong success na gusto mong makuha, pagkatapos gawin mo yung ginagawa nila/niya. On a much deeper level, hindi lang yung mga ginagawa nila yung mga gagawin at gagayahin mo. Kaylangan ay maunawaan at ma-adapt mo sa buhay mo yung kanilang mga core beliefs, traits, habits, characteristics, motivational drivers, work ethics, etc. So step 1, hanap ka ng successful na tao and model them. Step 2: Know Your Outcome Specifically - Napaka inportante nito dahil hindi mo lang basta pwedeng sabihin na gusto mong yumaman. It’s very undetermined. Know your specific outcome and write them down. Both of these requires very very low investment but highly profitable. Sigurado kang na kikitain mo yung 1M mo after a year. How hard and how many hours will you work to hit your target income? You see, rich and successful people, kapag may sinimulan silang business, meron silang matibay na paniniwala na magiging successful sila sa kung ano man yung ginagawa nila. Step 4: Work Hard - (and Smart) Bakit nagiging successful ang ibang tao? Simple lang they work harder and smarter than unsuccessful people does. Ang problema kasi ng ibang business owners (Network Marketers/Home based business owners) porket may business na sila at boss na nila ang sarili nila, they tend na mag pa easy easy. The difference between the most successful people is they work hard BUT they enjoy what they do because they LOVE what they are doing. Kaya nga you DESERVE MORE, kung sahod lang aasahan mo, usually matatagalan talaga bago may mangyari sayo. Several netizens noted that popular porn sites such as PornHub, Xvideos and Red Tube were blocked for supposedly violating the anti-child pornography law. “This website has been ordered blocked under authority of the Philippine Government pursuant to Republic Act 9775 or the Anti-Child Pornography Law,” read the message on the blocked sites. Users noted the block appeared to be limited to subscribers of Smart and Sun Cellular mobile data. Globe subscribers, on the other hand, were able to access the sites as of yesterday. No official statement from Smart has been issued regarding the block. In 2014, the National Telecommunications Commission issued a memorandum directing internet service providers to block access to porn sites for violating the anti-child pornography law. Onalytica - Social Media Marketing Top 100 Influencers and Brands There was once a day when the only way to communicate was to write a real letter, physically talk to a person or dial a telephone. When you got on the bus in the morning, commuters were catching up on current affairs by reading articles in a newspaper rather than articles on their phone. The use of the internet used to be a privilege; today – with smartphones, tablets, laptops and their multiple device variants – we find ourselves constantly submerged in the world of technology without even trying. socialmediausers20102018 The evolution of technology has allowed social media to evolve in parallel. What were once standalone websites and online chat services; are now advertising spaces and business opportunities. In 2003, social networking website MySpace was launched. During its popularity peak MySpace prided itself on being particularly music orientated, specifically allowing bands and artists to create accounts to publish and share their work. The ability to find like-minded people within MySpace groups and communities allowed lesser known artists to reach out to individuals in an attempt to build their fan base. Thus were born bands and artists who gained fame solely due to MySpace marketing (Arctic Monkeys, Drop, Dead, Gorgeous and Jeferee Star, for example). Facebook, originally created for a group of individuals at Harvard University, quickly became a worldwide phenomenon and 100,000 companies had set up a group on the site by 2007– three years after its launch – to promote their business and attract new customers. There are now 40 million small businesses using Facebook ‘pages’ and it is riddled with adverts and promotional links smartly catered for each individual. Facebook is currently the most used social media networking website in the world, with 1.5 billion active users, and 700 million using the Facebook mobile messaging app alone. Twitter was launched in 2006; it rapidly gained popularity amongst organisations and celebrities and, by 2013, was one of the ten most-visited websites in the world. The option to follow other users (rather than befriend them) and ability to search for topics/conversation makes constructing lists of people with similar interests easy. Companies can search, via Twitter or with the help of many outside tools, for specific demographics or potential customers and directly engage with them. Theoretically, rather than wait for the customer to walk through the door, the company can go straight to those who have already implied an interest. b2bb2c Thus, has begun the development of so many other social networking platforms, all with influencer potential and agendas. MySpace, Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest, Instagram, Reddit, Vine, LinkedIn – to name a few – each trying to do something different, each attracting particular audiences but ultimately, all with the possibility of being marketing tool. These platforms have become international address books of possible clients to win over and in turn, we have seen the rise of social media ‘gurus’ and major individual influencers who are experts in doing just this. Social media marketing is the process of using various social media platforms to generate interest and eventually turn this interest into a customer base. 97ofmarketersuse Amongst the social media connoisseurs, there are countless theories on how to run a successful campaign or upload effective content. Many of these individuals have been able to produce full entrepreneurial businesses, and thousands of analytical and marketing jobs have been created as a consequence of the social media revolution – illustrating just how important social media in marketing is. At Onalytica, we use our unique Influencer Relationship Management software to monitor and analyse online trends in order to help brands realise a social media marketing and engagement strategy. WHAT ARE THE EXPERTS SAYING? From our Top 100 Social Media Marketing Individuals Influencer List, we managed to get in touch with a few of the top influencers; here’s what they said when we asked their thoughts on the future of social media marketing: Jeff Bullas #2jeffbullas Forbes Top 10 Social Media Influencer @jeffbullas “The social media landscape is moving from a free model to a mix of free and paid. It is also become more mobile centric with the sharing and content being driven more by smartphones. A third factor to consider is that managing this complexity will require the increasing use of digital marketing automation software to handle the complexity, capture the data and to do it at scale. Brands will need to learn the art and science of this rapidly evolving eco-system. Marketing is no longer just a creative pursuit but driven by technology and big data. The modern marketer needs to be a marketing ninja geek.” michaelkoehlerMichael Koehler #3 Founder of Xtreme Social, Online Entrepreneur @michaelkohler20 “I think the way we communicate with our followers will change a lot and have to a lot with video and especially live streaming. This is allowing you to create a whole new level of engagement between you and your followers. Platforms and services like Periscope or Facebook allow people and brands to live stream their daily activities and show live scenes out of their work space. Twitter Video allows you to reply to a tweet with a short video clip which is a huge game changer. When it comes to big brands they probably are a little bit behind when it comes to social media. You wouldn’t believe how many CEOs of big companies still have no clue about the effectiveness of it and so they don’t use it to its full potential. One thing I always say is: Social Media is not the Future, it’s the present.” jan-gordonJan Gordon #6 CEO of Curatti @janlgordon “Turning followers into advocates and building community is key. Using technology like Periscope, Meerkat and Blab to communicate in real time is a becoming a very powerful means of engaging beyond your blog. I think marketers should become familiar with and utilise these channels in the future as part of their social media marketing strategy. Providing moments rather than memories consistently will help you to stay relevant and top of mind in your niche. ” andrewAndrew Hutchinson #7 Writer/Moderator @SocialMedia2day @adhutchinson “The future of social media marketing is the same as the past – engagement. Our means of gaining insight and understanding of our audiences are growing, and we’re not even anywhere near fully realising what this new world of social data might mean. But that’s exactly where we need to be looking. The strength of social media is that it gives everyone a voice – the way brands capitalise on this is by hearing it. The next level of social media marketing will be about finding the best ways to translate and rationalise the rising flood of data. Having access to billions of tweets and posts and engagements is meaningless if you can’t rationalise it and find the message amidst the noise. To do that, you have to know what you’re looking for, you have to take the time to understand your buyer journeys and work out where the key thresholds in that path occur. Understanding this will inform every element of your overall strategy, and you have more means of establishing this than any time in history. It’s a new world, a new way of looking at things. Broadcasting to many is losing its allure as the best way to generate interest. Reaching out to your most-likely few, then working to have your brand message spread from those advocates, is the way to build a sustainable and relevant social brand.” MAPPING THE SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING COMMUNITY We were very interested in seeing which social media marketing professionals and brands were leading the online discussion, so we analysed over 1.2M tweets matching the following query: “social media marketing” OR socialmediamarketing OR #SMM OR ((#socialmedia OR “social media”) AND (marketing OR #marketing)) and identified the top 100 most influential brands and individuals leading the discussion on Twitter. The brands and individuals listed are undoubtedly influential when it comes to driving discussion around social media marketing. The PageRank based methodology we use to extract influencers on a particular topic takes into account the number and quality of contextual references that a user receives. These calculations are independent of a user’s number of followers, but we do filter our lists based on how much a user is engaged in the conversation and the influence they drive through their networks. The Second Coming Of Jesus Christ The False Gospel of the Vatican Roman Catholicism Mormonism Videos Transubstantiation: The Greatest Hoax in the World The New Covenant Jerusalem: Earthly vs Heavenly Deception Warnings How To Get Saved For Real Reality Check: When Famous People Die Previous Next The Christmas Deception: Santa Claus, “Mother Mary” and the “Little Baby Jesus” At least two people were killed during the 2016 “Black Friday” sales throughout the USA. I took a look at some of the news videos, and once again it was pure madness, and a spectacle for all the world to see. There were more than enough “naughty” people to go around once again, at this “most wonderful time of the year.” What does all of this have to do with Jesus Christ? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! This whole idea of Santa Claus, being mixed in with the birth of Jesus Christ has been nothing more than the lie of the devil from the beginning! In shopping malls across the country, the man with the BIG white beard, and the BIG red suit will sit on his BIG throne, as the precious little ones will make their Christmas requests known to him. While Santa is bellowing out his Ho, Ho, Ho, the angels in Heaven are crying out Holy, Holy, Holy, to the one who is seated upon the throne! Satan is the great deceiver of souls, and he does NOT play games. He will do whatever it takes to keep people distracted and totally in LOVE with the things of this WORLD, and he knows that his time is short! Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the DEVIL is come down unto you, having great WRATH, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. (Revelation 12:12) Satan does NOT want anyone to know about the GIFT of salvation, and the Heaven that awaits those who trust in Jesus Christ. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15) But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (1 Corinthians 2:9-10) Forget all about this stuff about who is “naughty or nice,” the theme of the “Christmas Season” for many people is this: “I want my deal and I want it now, and you better get out of my face!” This is the time of the year when Jesus Christ, the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords is put back inside the little manger, and Mother Mary gets to cuddle him in her arms for another season. Countless millions have no idea that they are going to stand before Jesus Christ, the great “I AM” one day. They have no idea that Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, and the ONE who has the power to cast a person into Hell! I know that because that would have described me perfectly, because I was as lost as could be. I did not know the REAL Jesus Christ of the scriptures, but that all changed AFTER I was born again of the Spirit.(John 3:1-8. 2 Corinthians 5:17) When the name of Jesus Christ is mentioned many people have a mental image that comes to mind. When the “Holiday Season” and Christ-Mass roll around, many people will see the little manger scenes where the cute little “graven images” of Jesus are laid on top of a pile of straw. To some people, Jesus becomes a little “goo-goo baby” to them. You will also see many Christ-Mass cards with “Mother-Mary” holding a little infant Jesus in her arms. By the way, some of the “visions” of the “Blessed Mother Mary” over the years come in the same way, with a large “Mother Mary” holding a “little baby Jesus” in her arms. What does that tell you? Millions of Roman Catholics have been deceived over the centuries by this demonic hoax, and I was one of them until the Lord opened my spiritual eyes, and SAVED my soul from an eternal Hell! In some churches the leaders and Pastors will lead their congregations while singing Happy Birthday to Jesus on December 25th each year. Many of those same pastors will rake in millions during this time of year, as they play the usual sentimental crowd pleasing “Christmas songs.” There are “big-bucks” to be made during the “Christmas” season, and the greed monsters want to make the most of it. You will also see the big name television “ministry” preachers put on their “Christmas Season face” as they put on a full court press for donations at this time of year. You will often find them peddling their silly looking, man-made ornaments for big bucks. “Call in now, our operators are standing by” “Call right away, and we will throw in a new set of steak knives” “There are still a few lines open, do not miss out on this opportunity” I am totally convinced that many, if not most, of the modern day television “ministers” would be nowhere to be found if their money tree were to suddenly stop filling their bank accounts. Most people would probably be amazed if they knew the amount of money these “ministries” took in each year, along with the salaries, expense accounts and multiple homes that go along with it. The modern day “Jesus” of the name it, and claim it, preachers is a huge business these days. Many well known television preachers would put the fattest, of the “fat cats” in the “world system” to shame with their dealings and manipulation of the people. Oh God have mercy! The people of the “world” have taken great advantage of this “Christmas season.” As I said above, there will be long lines at stores throughout the country, with people flying, leaping, diving and trampling on each other, to get the best “Black-Friday” super deals. What does all of this have to do with Jesus Christ? Absolutely NOTHING! Such is the tomfoolery of one of Satan’s greatest deceptions. Who else but the DEVIL could trick and deceive people into mocking the very one who came into this world to save men’s souls. What would you think if your close friend invited you over to his home for a birthday party, and you saw a little nativity like scene, with a graven image (statue) of him in a little crib. Then you take a closer look and you see the crib is surrounded by larger graven images (statues) of his parents, and other relatives whom you recognize? Would that not seem strange to you? How much stranger is it then to attempt to portray Jesus Christ, the creator of ALL things in a little manger every December? Can you imagine the countless millions of dollars that have been made selling things such as that, over the past 200 years? What does all of this stuff have to do with Jesus Christ and true salvation? Absolutely NOTHING! Satan, the “god of this world” has been having a “field day” for so long now that even he is probably amazed at how spiritually blind people truly are. The principalities and powers of darkness know their “game” very well and they have been deceiving billions of souls into an eternal Hell for thousands of years now. Are you numbered among them? If the devil can convince you that Jesus Christ is a little baby in a crib, or a little infant in the arms of “Mother Mary” then he has accomplished his goal. But if you recognize the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who became man, and then shed his perfect blood to justify lost sinners like me and you, then he is is a loser in that case. If you understand and believe that Jesus Christ conquered sin and death for sinners like me and you, and that he rose from the dead, then he is a loser again. I heard a preacher say once that you will hear the devil refer to Jesus as the Son of God, but you will NEVER hear him refer to him as the Son of Man. Why? Because the devil does not want you to know that Jesus Christ the Son of God became a man for the sole purpose of redeeming men’s souls! The devil is alright with Jesus Christ being the Son of God, but he desires the lost sinners to remain lost. Satan is a great deceiver of souls, and he will always attempt to create a FALSE image of Jesus Christ because then you will not realize your own lost condition and your need for salvation! We must never forget that it is the devil himself who blinds the minds of lost people, to keep them from knowing the true salvation, which is found in Jesus Christ. Yes, there is a battle for your soul going on, and it is high time that you realize that before it is to late. But if our GOSPEL be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious GOSPEL OF CHRIST, who is the image of GOD, should shine unto them. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) To millions of people in this world, Jesus Christ is still seen as nothing more than a young Jewish man in His early thirties who taught some very good principles, and did some wonderful miracles, and walked along the shores of Galilee. They have no idea that if they die without trusting in him for salvation, that they will spend eternity in a very real Hell! Jesus Christ emphasized that truth after he was butchered on the cross, and rose again from the dead: And he (Jesus) said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that BELIEVETH and is baptized shall be SAVED; but he that BELIEVETH NOT shall be DAMNED. (Mark 16:15-16) To millions of others, Jesus Christ is still hanging on the cross and therefore a little crucifix is hung on the wall as a reminder of His death. Sorry, but Jesus Christ is ALIVE and well and reigning on high in Heaven! here is something that you need to know. The Jewish people throughout the world are in dire need of salvation in Jesus Christ as much as any other person in the whole world. Does that mean that a Jewish person will not go to Heaven without trusting in Jesus Christ? That is exactly what that means, and that is exactly what the scriptures (God’s Word) tells us! Have you ever thought of Jesus Christ as being a KING? The Old Testament is filled with scriptures that prove that the King of Israel is Jesus Christ! The Old Testament also tells us that the KING OF ISRAEL is GOD! Thus saith the LORD the KING OF ISRAEL, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no GOD. (Isaiah 44:6) When you go to the New Testament you will find the risen Jesus Christ speaking to John, and he told John that HE was the first and the last! Read it for yourself: And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. (Revelation 1:17-18) Folks, that is the greatest news that you can, and will, ever hear. Jesus Christ is the very same first and last which spoke out from the book of Isaiah! Jesus Christ is alive for evermore, and he is on your side if you have put your faith in him. If you have not put your faith in him, what are you waiting for? He is calling you right now! It does not matter how wicked your past has been by the way, because the grace of God is greater than all of that stuff! God still calls sinners like me and you to repent and believe he gospel, and he still uses average every day, simple people for his own glory! Get in the “boat” of salvation while there is still time, put on your eternal life preserver, and make Jesus Christ your Captain. By the way the angels will rejoice in Heaven, and that is the God honest truth! I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. (Luke 15:7) Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. (Luke 15:10) Getting back to the Old Testament scriptures we find the prophet Isaiah talking about a KING who was was coming on a donkey, and “having SALVATION“ Who could this possibly be speaking of? He was speaking of Jesus Christ, and that is exactly how Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy KING cometh unto thee: he is just, and having SALVATION; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. (Zechariah 9:9) In the New Testament we find some wise men who came looking for a person who was born “KING OF THE JEWS”. This happened to upset an earthly King named Herod, and all of Jerusalem along with him. How could the birth of a baby upset so many people? Who was this new born child? The Bible tells us that it is JESUS CHRIST. Now when JESUS was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born KING OF THE JEWS for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. (Matthew 2:1-3) When Jesus grew up to be a young man, a man named Nathaniel called Him the Son of God, and also the King of Israel. Could this be true? Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? JESUS answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael answered and saith unto him, RABBI, thou art the SON OF GOD; thou art the KING OF ISRAEL (John 1:48-49) One day Jesus came riding into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, just as the prophet Zechariah had prophesied hundreds of years earlier. the people cried out Hosanna, and they called Jesus the KING OF ISRAEL. On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that JESUS was coming to JERUSALEM Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the KING OF ISRAEL that cometh in the name of the LORD, And JESUS, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy KING cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt. These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when JESUS was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. (John 12:12-16) Eventually the majority of Jesus’ own people [the Jewish people – of Israel] rejected Him and saw to it that He would be crucified. But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the KING OF THE JEWS? For he knew that the CHIEF PRIESTS had delivered him for ENVY. But the CHIEF PRIESTS moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the KING OF THE JEWS? And they cried out again, CRUCIFY HIM . Then Pilate said unto them, WHY, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, CRUCIFY HIM. (Mark 15:9-14) While Jesus Christ was hanging on that old rugged cross He was mocked by the Jewish religious crowd, including the chief priests. They mocked Jesus by telling Him that He could not even SAVE Himself. They asked Christ [MESSIAH], the KING OF ISRAEL, to come down from the cross so that they might see and believe. And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, SAVE THYSELF, and come down from the cross. Likewise also the CHIEF PRIESTS MOCKING said among themselves with the scribes, HE SAVED OTHERS; HIMSELF HE CANNOT SAVE LET CHRIST [MESSIAH] THE KING OF ISRAEL descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him. (Mark 15:29-32) Pilate put a placard upon the cross, entitled “THE KING OF THE JEWS” and this upset the Jewish Chief Priests. They demanded that he change it to say “He said, I am the King of the Jews” so that it would appear as a mockery as Jesus hung on the cross. Pilate refused to change what he had written, because the hand of God would not allow it to be changed. And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, THE KING OF THE JEWS; but that HE SAID, I AM KING OF THE JEWS. Pilate answered, What I have written I have written. (John 19:17-22) This person who we know as Jesus Christ is still hated by the majority of people in the world. His name is often used when people are angry or in a rage, and it is often intermingled with the worst of the four letter curse words. Few ever pay attention to that when it does happen, it is so taken for granted. The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is known as the KING OF KINGS and the LORD OF LORDS and one day he is coming back to judge the whole wide world. Are YOU ready for that day? These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is LORD OF LORDS, and KING OF KINGS : and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. (Revelation 17:14) And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:16) The mercy of God is available to all mankind. Please remember that none of us are promised even another day! For there is no difference between the JEW and the GREEK [GENTILE]: for the same LORD over all is rich unto ALL that call upon him. For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be SAVED (Romans 10:12-13) Share This Story, Choose Your Platform! While we might be hardwired to give in to temptation, there is a way for us to fight back.

HOW PEOPLE CHANGE They preferred to wait for larger monetary rewards rather than taking small monetary rewards right away. Numerous other experiments have demonstrated a similar effect. “Being able to step into the shoes of our future selves,” says Hershfield, “is akin to being able to realize both the positive and the negative ramifications of our decisions.” In order to bundle, however, there’s a major hurdle to overcome. It’s about trust. January 3, 2017 8:04 a.m. To Change Your Life, Learn How to Trust Your Future Self By Jeff Wise Share Tweet Share Share Email Comment Print Photo: Rob Lang/Getty Images How People Change It’s the first week of 2017, and Science of Us is exploring the science that explains how people make meaningful changes in their lives. Handy information for resolution season. Being a human is hard. We know the sorts of choices we ought to make, and we earnestly intend to make them, but when the time comes, we don’t. We want to lose weight, but we eat a sundae. We want to get in shape, but we sit on the couch. We want to save money, but we buy a plane ticket to Italy. Funnily enough, scientists can’t agree why this is. The dominant idea in psychology and popular culture alike is that we have a part of our brain that is rational and knows what’s good for us, and another part that’s impulsive and wants bad things. They struggle on and on and eventually the rational part gets tired and gives in. Game over. It’s a depressing picture. What you might not have heard, though, is that in recent years a competing model has emerged from the field of addiction studies. In this conception, the human brain doesn’t have two warring parts, but one unitary system that prioritizes immediately rewarding options over those that pay off later. The struggle, then, isn’t really between good and bad, but between the future and the present. And what’s exciting about this way of looking at things is that not only does this explain why some people can, and do, win the battle against temptation, but it also gives the rest of us a strategy for how we can do the same. *** Of course, if we’re going to talk about self-control, we have to talk about Stanford psychologist Walter Mischel, who in the late 1960s and early ’70s famously gave 4-year-olds the choice between one snack-treat right away or two in fifteen minutes. When, years later, Mischel checked in on the participants in the so-called Marshmallow Test, he found that those who had waited did better in life in all sorts of ways. He concluded that they must possess a stable mental aptitude with which to beat back urges. In other words, willpower. RELATED STORIES Why You Keep Signing Your Future Self Up for Stuff You Don’t Actually Want to Do It’s Time to Get Acquainted With Your Future Self About three decades later, another psychologist, Roy Baumeister at Case Western Reserve University, developed ego-depletion theory to explain why people who try to do the right thing often wind up failing. He explained that, like a muscle, willpower eventually gets depleted and stops working. This willpower-as-muscle idea has been incredibly influential both in the field of psychology and in the popular culture. Just about every self-help book is based on it; in 2011, Baumeister co-authored his own best seller on it. In the last few years, however, a replication crisis has been ripping through social psychology, and ego depletion hasn’t fared well. The authors of a study recently published in the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science recruited more than 20 research centers around the world to conduct experiments involving more than 2,000 test subjects. They found no evidence for ego depletion. So if it’s not a muscle, what is it? An alternate answer has its roots in studies carried out by a contemporary of Mischel’s. In the 1960s, George Ainslie was a young researcher who wanted to understand how pigeons chose between options that were near or far in time. For instance, Ainslie offered a pigeon the option of getting one ounce of grain right away or four ounces of grain in four seconds. Ainslie found that pigeons can’t stand to wait for their reward; they want their grain and they want it now, even if they have to settle for a much smaller amount. Essentially, the pigeons were treating the later reward as being worth less than the full four ounces — they were discounting its value. This “delay discounting” isn’t too surprising — most of us would rather be rewarded now rather than later — but what Ainslie found next was exciting. It turned out that the pigeons were discounting future rewards in a way that caused them to engage in a seemingly irrational behavior called “preference reversal.” In one experiment, Ainslie allowed the pigeons to choose between a button that would give them four ounces of grain in 14 seconds and a second button that would give them one ounce of grain in 10 seconds. To the pigeon, both rewards were off in what seemed like the distant future, so they chose the larger one. But if they had to wait eight seconds, then the picture looked quite different. Now the smaller reward was just two seconds away, practically in front of their faces, while the big reward was still off in the remote future of six seconds hence. So they switched their preference and grabbed the smaller, immediate reward. They had changed their minds. The reason came down to the mathematics of how the brain calculates reward. Ainslie’s papers are full of discounting formulae and graphs, but I prefer a metaphor. Imagine you’re walking along, and in the distance you see a tree at the foot of a mountain. The tree looks smaller than the mountain. But as you get closer to the tree it starts to get larger faster than the mountain does, until eventually the two are the same size. Then the proportion switches. As you draw close to it the tree looms higher and higher overhead. When you’re standing next to the tree that’s all you see. While we might be hardwired to give in to temptation, there is a way for us to fight back. Similarly, when pigeons perceive two rewards far away in the future, it’s easy for them to gauge their true relative size. But as time goes by, and the sooner reward gets closer and closer, it looms larger and larger until it comes to seem more valuable than a larger reward that’s farther away. This is the breaking point, where the order of preferences switch. The pigeon changes its mind. Ainslie realized that humans change their minds the same way. Suppose you want to become a novelist, so you decide to start getting up every day at 5 a.m. to write. How wonderful it will be to summon the muse tomorrow, you tell yourself as you set the alarm clock and slip into bed. Next thing you know, the alarm is going off, it’s pitch black, and you find yourself smacking the alarm’s off button, thinking, Ugh, no way, and sliding back into the pillow’s sweet embrace. Of course, eventually you do wake up, at which point you realize that you’ve screwed up. You’ve shortsightedly traded your literary career for a few moments of comfort. But you couldn’t help it. When that cozy pillow was just a few inches away, totally un-discounted, its reward value was huge compared to its distant, steeply discounted alternative. Ainslie’s greatest insight was that while we might be hardwired to give in to temptation, there is a way for us to fight back. Unlike pigeons, humans have the ability to foresee future payoffs — not just one, but strings of them stretching off into the future. When you struggle to get out of bed early, the trade-off isn’t really between one moment of indulgence and one moment of future contentment. It’s between a moment of indulgence right now versus many years spent enjoying a successful career. Collectively, those moments of satisfaction will add up, a process Ainslie calls “bundling.” Like a worker assembling a gift backet, the brain’s subconscious reward circuitry computes the collective value of all the different benefits that will accrue tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, and ties them all together in a package. Even if any of the individual future rewards may seem distant and hence hold little value, the whole bundle added up together amounts to something quite large—larger, even, than a single moment of pleasure in the here-and-now. The mountain will always remain larger than the tree. Even if the future benefits may seem distant and hence hold little value, they collectively can add up to something greater than a single moment of pleasure in the here and now. The mountain will always remain larger than the tree. What you’re doing, essentially, is mentally projecting yourself into the future so you can experience the satisfaction of tomorrow’s rewards today. Intriguingly, researchers have found that people who more strongly identify with their future selves are better at self-control. In a 2009 study published in Judgment and Decision Making, psychologist Hal Hershfield showed subjects Venn diagrams with circles labeled “Current Self” and “Future Self.” Those who said they viewed the circles as mostly overlapping demonstrated more self-control in a later task: They preferred to wait for larger monetary rewards rather than taking small monetary rewards right away. *** When I’m trying to get myself out of bed to work on my novel, I succeed by adding up all the future benefits of my writing career. But I’ll only accrue those benefits if I keep getting up early. If I don’t really believe that I’ll be able to keep resisting temptation, if I think that I might just wind up flaking out and hitting the snooze button tomorrow and the day after that, then I can’t add up those future rewards, because they’ll never arrive. RELATED STORIES How to Boss Yourself Around If You Believe Your Willpower Is Limitless, It Is If you talk to people who’ve struggled and failed to enact positive change for themselves, you often hear the bemoan just such a lack of faith. According to the Mayo Clinic, some of the most common excuses people make for not exercising are “I’m too lazy,” “I think exercise is boring,” and “I’m not athletic.” These aren’t judgments about the exercise; these are judgments about the people themselves. They believe that they’ll flake, and that prophecy is self-fulfilling. In the mid-1970s, psychologist Stephen Maisto conducted an experiment that would be forbidden today. He gave recovering alcoholics either a spiked punch or a similar-tasting virgin one. He then told half of each group that they’d just consumed alcohol, and the other half that they had not. As you might expect, half the test subjects experienced a sudden surge in craving. But it wasn’t strictly the ones who’d consumed alcohol. Whether they actually had or not, it was the ones who believed they had. The alcoholics who thought they’d had a drink believed that once they fell off the wagon they’d be hopeless, and therefore couldn’t bundle. So they couldn’t. Conversely, people who are absolutely certain about their future behavior face no willpower struggles. Bundling is easy because there’s no doubt that the stream of future rewards will arrive. This effect was elegantly demonstrated by a study of Orthodox Jewish smokers published in the journal Psychopharmacology. The researchers asked their subjects to refrain from smoking both on normal weekdays, when they were normally free to smoke as they pleased, and on the Sabbath, when Orthodox Jews are forbidden to smoke. They found that the smokers felt the greatest cravings on weekdays. On the Sabbath, they hardly felt any cravings at all. Now, nicotine is an addictive substance, one that directly interferes with the brain’s pleasure circuitry. Yet these men didn’t crave it on the Sabbath. They knew, both consciously and subconsciously, that smoking wasn’t in the cards. The religious prohibition was too strong. So their confidence in their future behavior was rock-solid. As Ainslie puts it, desire is motivated. We tend to think of desire as something immutable, a thing that you either possess or you don’t. But if we don’t really think that something is available to us, we don’t want it. If we trust ourselves enough that we believe we won’t give in to temptation, that temptation is effectively not available and we stop wanting it. To conquer temptation and achieve change, then, you need to dispel the fog of self-doubt and develop confidence in your own future behavior. But how can you do that? *** If you think you can give yourself confidence by mouthing affirmations in the mirror, think again. Studies have found that at a subconscious level, the way we form beliefs about ourselves isn’t about what we say or even what we think, but what we see ourselves doing. If we want to change our beliefs, we first have to change the behavior we observe. But that’s paradoxical. In order to change your behavior, you need to bundle, and to bundle, you need to trust yourself. But you won’t trust yourself if all you’ve perceived in the past is untrustworthy behavior. Catch-22! The solution is to stop worrying about the behavior and focus on your self-trust. The way to do this is via a process I call “the algorithm.” If you follow it assiduously, you will replace the downward spiral of self-fulfilling self-doubt with an upward spiral of self-trust. Here’s how it works. Step one: Choose a simple rule for yourself, one so simple and clear that you can’t possibly fail. Step two: Make sure you follow step one. The point is not to build a habit, but to establish a pattern of evidence for your own brain to observe. Find a very doable piece of behavior to adopt, then focus on doing it, no matter what. A person who wants to get up early might say, “I’m going to set my alarm five minutes early.” A person who wants to stop being a slob might say, “I’m going to make my bed before I leave the bedroom each morning.” A person who wants to learn French might say, “I’m going to do ten vocabulary flash cards on the train ride to work.” In order to change your behavior, you need to trust yourself. The goals are so small they seem almost useless. But keep at them. As you establish credibility, you can use your new bundling power to set more ambitious goals — to do 20 flashcards, then 50. To start reading French websites. To become a French novelist. In time, the project becomes part of your identity, and your investment so enormous, that you dare not let it slip away. Not only is continuing effortless, it actually becomes hard to stop. The intriguing thing about the algorithm is that although the science underpinning it is new, the technique itself has been around for years. Take Alcoholics Anonymous. The program is all about tackling an enormous problem by setting modest goals — going to meetings, staying sober “one day at a time” — and continually verifying that you’re on track. Likewise with Weight Watchers: The idea is to impose a clear set of rules on the otherwise messy business of eating, and to keep checking in to ensure compliance. The algorithm isn’t rocket science. People even stumble onto it on their own. People like Gerry Duffy, a 26-year-old Irishman who was heavier than he wanted to be. Every time he tried to lose weight, it came right back. Then one day he saw a particularly mortifying photo of himself and decided he had to get serious. He started taking a half-hour walk after dinner each night. In time, that half-hour became an hour. He started to feel fit, and that motivated him to eat better. He lost weight. He started to jog. As he became lean and strong he gained the confidence he needed to quit his job and start his own business. Today he is one of the world’s leading endurance athletes and winner of the U.K. Deca-Ironman Challenge, a competition that involves completing a triathlon every day for ten straight days. For Duffy, it now takes a lot of effort not to exercise every single day. Duffy is just one random example. There are others like him all around — people who felt trapped by their behavior but managed to break free. They did it not by learning new habits, but by learning to change what they wanted. This new way of looking at self-control is a bit more complicated and less intuitive than the standard angel-on-one-shoulder-devil-on-the-other view. But it’s worth the effort, because unlike the standard view, it allows us to hope — to imagine a state of being in which we can live life the way we want to without struggle. To change for the better, for good. TAGS: HOW PEOPLE CHANGEWILLPOWERSELF-CONTROL Share on Facebook Tweet this Story
